The place is huge too!  Lots of bleachers, picnic tables, sports fields, as well as the spot where folks sit to watch fireworks.

I plan to go at first light for a couple hours on Saturday morning just to give it a test run.  I have a buddy that I work with who is interested in MD'ing and he wants to go along to see what all goes on.

As always, some great advice folks.  I appreciate it.  Getting easier now, after some time... have been hitting some of the parks now during my lunch break (reckon I am getting addicted... not so sure this is good, ha ha).  Found a ring near a bench, disc out at TAB... dug it... was a Tiger's Eye ring with a diamond looking stone on either side of the Tiger's eye... don't think its real gold though as when I started to hit it with a dremel buffing wheel, it began to turn black... sigh.  Fun anyways though.  Having a blast.  Kind of like fishin... never know what you will land.  Grin

Ha, so true.  This can be addicting for sure.  heck, my hands hurt from digging over the weekend, ha ha.  My best tool in parks... 3 inch steel pocket knife... ensures I don't go much deeper than 3 inches... and cuts through pretty quick.  Of course constantly sharpening the blade.  Lol.  Gets dull fast.  Works great though if I stay around the 3" mark.

Well I suppose that people would look at you funny if you arrived at the office with a spade so the pocket knife seems like a good idea  Smiley Ho yes I did not know that there were plastic pocket knifes  Grin

Hah!  Reckon I didn't think about that... should have said the entire knife is steel, handle etc... from Harbor Freight, was $4.99.  But one rugged tough little knife.  Has a clip on the side also, to clip to your belt or to your pouch. I figured for $4.99, if it broke, no big deal.  But its holding up real nice... and I really put some pressure on it at times.  Just a tough heavy little knife... perfect for a quick plug or to even pop up the target.  Plastic knife.... Jolly Jokah.   Grin

You could make your self a nifty tool not to big for digging with a serrated edge on the one side and a blade on the other  Grin Grin and keep it in your sock

Ouch!

Look, mate, I have this huge issue with a tiny pebble every time one gets in my sock. I'm not putting a knife in there.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I use a cheap stainless dive knife $1.25 cut some serrations in it, and it works better than any other digger I have used before
