It has never really bothered me to much. I look like a total geek too! Fully equipped I have my Sovereign Elite control head in sling bag, my rod with the meter on top and my Sunray probe on the bottom, pouch for my finds, Lesche digging tool on my hip and a great big pair of Black Widow's for my headphones. Must look kind of freakish I suppose to some folks. For me, though, I just concentrate on the tone and sweep.

Another thing that helps a lot is going when & where there aren't a lot of people. I'll usually go very early in the morning to avoid the heat and crowds. Works great. It's a fun hobby.

A long time ago it used to bother me, thinking that people were thinking that I was some sort of a scavenger, but if you think about it......we are treasure hunters with a several hundred dollar machine designed to find money and jewelry. if anything now, I feel sorry for them

So true.  Like the idea of the Dive Knife as well.  Will have to check into that.  Man, I am addicted though.   Grin

Gold still eludes me.  Have to have passed the coil over some since doing this... must be missing it though... perhaps time to keep it in AM and just dig it all - I think.  But, yes, continue to not really care if people are watching.  I do keep a distance though.  Lol.   If folks come within a hundred feet or so, I mosey elsewhere.

Had a strange thing happen over the weekend ... was detecting a park... sure as heck mower/tractor shows up... he stayed within 100 feet of me the entire time I was there... man, did I eat some dust that morning.  Sort of began to wonder if it was intentional.   Wink  I stayed about 45 mins.  Dude had the whole park to mow, but stayed near me... I gave up after 45 mins and split.  Was starting to get a wee bit ticked... so figured before I lose my cool...  back another day.   Smiley

What kind of machine do you use? Accept foil and nickles, If you aren't digging a lot of pull tabs, you'll miss the gold.
Here it is

I am a knife dealer also. This one I bought about 4 years ago, and I think I spent $1.25. They are up to $3.50 now. I can get one on my next order, or send you a different model. I like this one because of the rubber handle, you can dig all day without blisters or sore spots.

I am using a Tesoro Silver uMax (I know, I am still a rookie... can't spend the dough (yet) for the big buck machines... someday).  The knife looks good.  How long is the blade?  I think (here in Phoenix) for the parks... the law states 3 inches.  I think.  That knife looks perfect though.  I'm going to check into the town law for our parks... if the blade is more than 3 inches?
