I'm with McIntosh.  I am polite to everyone I meet and answer reasonable questions.  Twenty-six years working as a paramedic instilled some fairly good people skills in me.  When it comes to kids I ask them to stand back when I'm digging and then I show them what I found.  If it is a common zinc penny I may give it to them.  Then I chuckle to myself because I know they are going to bug the dickens out of their parents wanting a detector.

I had a really good laugh reading your post. I am trying to get the courage to go down to the kids skate park. The farmers market is also held there once a month

OK, so now its been about 1 year of detecting for me.  Figured I'd drop a quick update from my perspective anyways... maybe offer some additional hope for ya'll newbies that may be a wee bit shy.  It "does" get much more comfortable after a while. And yup, have learned my machine a lot better than my last post... have hit gold a few times now... have dug over 50 rings this past year, sure many were junk, many were silver and several were real gold (!)... I also have to update, that yup, that helped a bit as well. Lol.  I am now pretty much of the mind set of not caring whether I am seen or not, lol.  Although I still hunt mainly at night... just enjoy it much more (and out here in AZ, during about 7 months or more of the year, its a bit HOT during the day).

Anyways, for those still a bit shy etc... stick with it... it gets a lot better.  Another thing, a year into this, am not bored of it in the least... enjoy this hobby, big time.  HH folks!

I cannot tell, that I am strongly confused, but whenever possible I avoid populous places. Meeting somebody I'm to answer a lot of questions (always the same). Happens so, that I allow to try to walk with my detector.
Fathers of families on picnics often indulgently smile, looking at their children in headphones, running hither and thither, then unwillingly take the detector themselfs and...

' Where it can be bought? '-the last question Wink

I'll tell some of my hot spots are foreclosed homes in the back yard, and then between the curb and the side walk. You have to be careful when doing this. I always try to get permission.

Bobby, I understand. I have a simlair issue here in Japan. I always have Japanese people asking me what I am doing. I had a guy ask me to hand him a toy car I found, and he just walked off with it? I was dumbfounded. He was speaking Japanese and maybe he ask to keep it. I just hope he gaved it to a kid. It can be embarrassing to some people, but I am not. Especially when you can pull something out of your pocket and show them. Then they start asking you where can they find a metal detector like yours. Most people thank me when I am on the beach, they think I am finding sharpe objects and removing them? (I always put the trash in my pocket or drap a bag off my waist).Good luck with your MD-ing. John

Larry, is that a 12 Gauge your sporting? You must be on a hot spot there. I guess you don't have problems with people messing with you, when your on a digg! That was good advice! Merry Xmas, John

John sometimes I'll do the same thing, For example my neighbor let me hunt her yard,I found some clad But also dug up an old button and I showed it to her and and she rembered it from her sons coat years ago, so I let her have it. Sometimes the little things you give will give you alot of ground!

I really don't mind people talking to me, especially little kids. When they ask me what I'm doing, I love to see their expressions when I say I'm looking for treasure. What bugs me is when I'm at the beach and adults constantly ask me if I found any gold. Otherwise I don't have any problems. I like talking to people, and I feel it would only take a few minutes of my time. I might even get some good leads out of it eventually.

I dont mind the kids, I have give them the clad i find. An old man at the park told me years ago that a young boy was watching him detect and he was being nice and let him walk with him. Well he had a faint signal and dug it, seen the silver and was reaching for it and the kid stuck his hand in the hole and took the silver and ran laughing at him. He said it was a 3 cent piece and really wanted it. Now I am alittle sketchy on the kids and usually mark the spot and come back to it when they leave. I dont go too far away from the spot.
