I have purchased several $20 dollar MD's on Craigs list , and i use those usually BH Kids model to let the kids use when they come around asking a million questions. on one ocassion i had loaned this kid the detector and with in a few seconds he found a silver dollar , and all i found that day was pennies and a kids necklace. he did so good i even let him keep the detector.

now that's being an ambassador for the hobbie.....reminds me of my father-in-law who did the same thing with rods and reels---bought 'em at garage sales, fixed 'em up and gave 'em to kids. (of course if ever got someone's dad taking the rod from the kid and using it himself, he took it back

I am also new to metal detecting and I have a problem with hunting in public. When I have tried to hunt at schools or the park people starting staring and I would leave. I tried going back to the schools when they were closed but they seem to lock up the areas where I want to try. I guess it I will try to ignore everyone like the others members are saying to do. G Day Cheryl. I use to feel a bit strange when people use to pass by and being worried about what they were thinking thats normal, But i think you'll find they are just as hessitant as we are as in not knowing weather to come up and chew the fat fer a spell, In that situation the word hallo and a smile can break down the highest of walls, most folks just carry on about their day and some say have you found anything,and i say just beer cans but never any full ones, give that a try and next time you see these folks they'll stop and talk and you make new friends that way. And if they don't you have'nt lost any thing . John

I am getting more comfortable I have owned my detector for a year but, I do not get out as often as I want. I took my MD to a tot lot near a high school one day and some high school kids were there. I just walked around them and proceeded to take some coins out of the ground and one of them asked "how much do you make with that thing" I had my wife's Escalade and I told them I usually stop after I have made enough to make my car payment for the month Funny
