All Tesoro's are deep machines with great discrimination. Some people will not use a VDI machine. You have a good one, and it will pick up raw gold. The blade is about 6 inches, which is perfect for a digger. I used that same one in Arizona and no one even looked at me funny. Just another guy metal detecting.

Order me two of those knives and let me know how you want to be paid for them.  I use a Tejon and a Golden Umax, my son hunts with a silver Umax.  I dig tons of tabs, but it wasn't always that way, I used to discriminate and only find coins....but now I am diggin nickels and jewelry.

THAT'S a great question .   i always feel a bit foolish, i don't know why, when people stare,  BUT most times they're really curious and interested in what we find.  i probably will always feel that way.  BUT, as long as we leave no mess. & cover our holes, no one can complain.

Azwip,

As soon as you get a great hit and you dig up your first Platinum or gold piece! Then you will not care a less about people staring as you will be able to share you treasure stories with them.

Yes, you actually do get used to it. I used to feel the same way and then I saw some guys in wet suits coming onto the beach from the water and I asked if they ever find anything. One opened a fanny pack and showed me a "handful" of rings. Must have been a dozen.

Now I mostly hunt the beach because it's easier (and no snakes), but I go in and out among the people there...right in front of them. I'm usually watching the ground (some treasure is on top) but I sometimes catch someone's eye and a little smile works while you keep going. Sometimes they'll ask if you found anything, and you say "some change". Sometimes they'll ask what the best thing you found is, and you can tell them you're a beginner, but you keep finding change, but you'll find some treasure or gold soon.

You have a valuable investment there and you don't want to waste it. Don't be a big baby. 99.9% of the people are nice. Just go about your hobby. If you find a "coin" in front of them, just hold it up for a second and say "penny/nickle, quarter" or whatever it is and put it away.

Little kids love to ask and see what you're doing. At the beach I sometimes find toy cars and if there's a really polite little kid, I may give him the toy and tell him that's today's treasure. Their smile makes it worthwhile. Once at the beach I felt like the pied piper. I found 2 diamond rings and when I came to the 3rd one, a kid put his hand into the hole and grabbed it. I told hin to give it to me and he did, but it was green and coroded and I'm sure the little diamond was fake, but I gave it to him and told him to show his mother and ask her to buy him a metal detector. He smiled and went away.

When I dig in a park, I try to dig the dirt onto a piece of plastic or canvas when possible, to place the dirt back into the hole without getting it all over the other grass. If the grass is too beautiful, I'll stay away. If you ever ask for permission, you can tell them that they won't even know you were digging. In rough areas, it doesn't matter.

Good luck. I guarantee, you'll get used to it as soon as you find a few coins and/or jewelry.

Ha ha, ya'll bust me up... "don't be a big baby", got that right, Lol.  I'm 6 even, 255lbs, and back off from kids in a park, lol.  I guess I always felt like "I was stealin something".  And at any moment am going to be arrested.  Ha ha.
 Smiley

But, like I said, getting better... so funny though when ya'll mention wearing the equipment... I wear the belt etc during nite hunts... and for the day hunts, basically, knife in one pocket, Pro Pointer in the other.... detector in hand... keep thinking "smaller profile", ha!

This is a great hobby though, tons of fun... and I know I am getting more comfortable now with it... like you said though, reckon I need that one really good find to solidify things.   Wink

Gold has gotta be out there somewhere... elusive little sucker though.  Reckon for me and the Silver, perhaps just running in AM and digging all the "rounded" hits (where it sounds the same in all directions) might be the way to increase the chances of hitting gold.  Also, maybe not trying to durn hard.  Man, I seem to hit the parks and elementary school field anytime I have free time... yup, addicted.  It nuts!    Shocked      When I first got my Silver uMax, thought, cool, something to do from time to time... yeah, right... first penny, I was/am hooked.

Sometimes when you "discriminate" you don't get nickles or gold jewelry items. Dig everything, no matter what, until you are an "expert". I still dig everything!
